As Thanksgiving is upon us and we have our fill of turkey with all the trimmings, we will begin decorating the Inn for a festive Christmas!

Grand Illumination begins Friday November 30th, so we must busy ourselves like the elves at the North Pole. The whole  month of December is such a special time in Williamsburg – the town is decorated, the shops are full, and there is an air of excitement throughout.

The Kingsmill Championship has returned after a a three year hiatus! The tournament begins September 3rd (Labor Day) and runs through, with the final round,  September 9th.

The  field will be led by top ranked Stacy Lewis – a victory at Kingsmill could catapult her to the number one women’s golfer in the world! A tour favorite, Michelle Wie, will also be on hand to capture the title.

The Championship will resume it’s regular schedule in the spring of 2013, during the month of May.

 On Thursday, May 17, 42 classic cars will be on display along  the Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area!

 The cars will all be high-end luxury models dating from 1925 to 1948, that had a limited production run.

 This event is being hosted by the Colonial Region Classic Car Club and the participating automobiles  belong to the Class Car Club of America.

The Club is in the area for a total of seven days, with trips to Jamestown, Yorktown, as well as other destinations, such as Petersburg, VA!

Virginia’s  79th Historic Garden Week is April 21 through the 28, 2012!

The Garden Club of Virginia, for one week every April, invites one and all to more than 250 of Virginia’s most unique gardens and homes throughout the state. Historic Garden Week is the oldest and largest event of its kind in the United States!

Williamsburg shares in this event with eight homes and gardens on display (including The College of William and Mary), held on April 24, 2012. Bentley Manor Inn is fortunate to have one of the homes and gardens, directly down the street from our location, on College Terrace - it will most certainly be a special event this year!

  Revolutionary City has returned to Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area for it’s seventh season!

 Each day, in the eastern end of the Historic Area (near the Capital Building), the town becomes a stage, with street performers in period garb acting out the stories of revolutionary days, during 18th century Williamsburg.

 On Mondays,“Building a Nation” explores the lives of residents and visitors to Williamsburg and their contributions to the founding of the new nation.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, “The King’s Government Collapses 1765-1776″  when Great Britain’s King George III  attempts to tighten controls over the colonies, turning the situation into a  rebellion.

On Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays,“The Challenge of Independence”  details what Virginians were facing from July 1776 to October 1781, during the War for Independance.

The Order of the British Empire dates back to 1917 and was established by King George the V. The Order has more than 100,00 members, comprised of citizens from the United Kingdom as well as other countries (admitted as “honorary” members).For more information on Historic Jamestown, please visit: www.historicjamestowne.org

Fifes and Drums

This summer, Historic Williamsburg will not go dark in the evening! They have introduced “Live After Five”, new programs throughout the Historic Area as well as new dining programs. Every Friday there is “A Salute to the Nation”, a tribute to our country which includes Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums, concluding with a fireworks salute – now thru August 26th.

Every night throughout the Historic Area, cresset’s will be lighted as you partake in any number of evening programs including, “A Grand Medley of Entertainments” and “Pirates Amongst Us” – now thru September 2nd.

The Taverns are always of interest, such as Chowning’s, which transforms it’s garden into a beer garden where you may enjoy an evening filled with music, visits from characters of the Colonial past, as well as 18th century games – nightly 5-7 PM through September 1st.
